Welcome to Hideout New Zealand Thank you for visiting our website, we appreciate your time.
Hideout New Zealand is owned by Diana and Chris Webb and we live on the North Shore in Auckland, New Zealand.
Diana’s background is in accounting, who has worked in various industries and at varying levels. She is also a Netball umpire qualified to control up to senior club games.
I am from the film and television industry specialising in the camera department and post production. I am also an active volunteer in the local Coastguard unit.
We have two teenage daughters and they are also involved in Netball either as players and like Diana, the eldest is also a qualified umpire.
We decided to purchase Hide Out NZ in 2009 for some very simple reasons. Overall, we love the idea of promoting natural New Zealand products overseas, while helping the environment by focusing on the fur of the introduced Australian Brushtail Possum.
With the Possum, we feel it is possible to satisfy the world demand for fur, without compromising our personal values on the treatment of animals. We totally accept the values of animal rights organisations.
New Zealand is unique in that before man arrived, there were no mammals present, with only birds, insects and reptiles (including the unique Tuatara) living in the forests. The majority of introduced animals were not a major threat because they were not competing for the same food supply and conditions were not ideal for them.
That was until the Australian Brushtail Possum was introduced to start a fur industry. Not only did the Possum find there were no natural predators, food was plentiful and very quickly their numbers grew out of control. Competing directly with the native birds for their food, it is estimated they eat 70,000 tons of vegetation every night. Brushtail Possum fur is a truly natural product as it is sourced from the forest and are not farmed. As long as we focus on eradicating them, we can give the native birds and insects a chance to own the forests again.
Best wishes
Diana and Chris Webb
